The flag bearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has selected a supply chain expert, Mr Peter Tennyson Nana Kwame Asamoah, as her running mate for Election 2020.
He was introduced to the public last Saturday at a ceremony held in Accra
Speaking after his introduction, Mr Asamoah said his partnership with the party’s flag bearer was formidable and would be a blessing to Ghanaians when the ticket was elected into power in this year’s election.
Mr Asamaoh noted that he was coming onto the ticket with rich experience and dedication to help develop the nation.
He paid glowing tribute to the flag bearer of the party, and said she had been his mentor over the years, and he was therefore proud to run with her for the highest office of the land.
Mr Asamaoh is an old student of Pope John Seminary Secondary School where he did his GCE Advanced Level and St. Mary’s Seminary Secondary School where he had his GCE Ordinary Level education.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with Philosophy from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Mr Asamaoh worked with OLAM (GH) Limited as a cashier from 2000 to 2002, where he was responsible for the cash and bank transactions.
He became the Assistant Export Coordinator at the Watanmal/Primex Ghana Limited in Tema from January to December 2006, where he was in charge of co-coordinating with shipping lines for smooth export.
He became a Supply Chain Assistant at Nestle Ghana Limited from 2008 to 2009, where he provided administrative support in the organisation of operational buying and sourcing and managed all vendors of the company who were in good standing.
Mr Asamoah has been the Warehouse Supervisor from 2009 to date, and has been managing the supply chain activity of the company and manages the raw materials warehouse and the warehouse staff.
He ensures that the range of suppliers meet customer needs as well as manages supplier contact and monitors supplier performance, together with ensuring that there is adequate supply to the production section for smooth operation.
The unveiling ceremony, which was also used as a seminar for parliamentary candidates of the party, was also attended by Regional Executives of the NDP.
The seminar was, however, held behind closed doors without the media’s participation.
The General Secretary of the party, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, who gave details of the NDP’s manifesto to the gathering, said an NDP government under the leadership of the former First Lady and Mr Asamoah would translate into the transformation that Ghanaians desire.
He said it was only “impassioned leaders” who thought about changing minds and attitudes to empower people who could lead the county into transformational growth.
“The target of visionary leaders is to impact minds and attitudes which empowers people,” he said.
He said Nana Konadu had demonstrated in the past that she was a “visionary and impassioned” leader who could transform the country when she led initiatives to empower women across the country.
For instance, he said the former First Lady empowered many women in deprived and rural communities to establish cottage industries that became a reliable source of revenue for many families across the country.
“Manifesto full of goodies is not sufficient for good leadership but an impassioned leader has in her the requirement of a good leader which would bring about development and more goodies,” he said.
Explaining how the NDP intends to transform the country, he said with the practice of participatory democracy, the country could develop rapidly as all stakeholders would have a purposeful part to play.
Alhaji Frimpong said the community must have a greater stake in all the initiatives of government so that they could be part of it, and that was the only way to sustain projects and initiatives.
“Governance is about leadership so we are looking at placing people over politics because we have a flag bearer who is impassioned and transformational,” Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong said.
The NDP is a political party that was founded in October 2012 by the wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
Nana Konadu was acclaimed flag bearer of the NDP at the party’s third National Delegates Conference in Accra
This would be the former first lady’s second attempt at becoming president of the country. In 2016, she contested the election with Mr Kojo Mensah Sosu as her running mate.
